① Negate any Trap effect that targets this card, and if you do, destroy that Trap Card. ② If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Spell/Trap cards until the end of the Damage Step. ③ At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: Target 1 Spell/Trap your opponent controls; destroy that target.
Card Rulings¶
About the ① effect:
It is a Continuous Effect, it cannot apply while this card is face-down (e.g. if “Book of Moon” is chained to the Trap)
About the ② effect:
It is a Continuous Effect, it applies from attack declaration until the Damage Step ends.
Spell/Trap effects may still be activated (e.g. the effect of an already activated “Ultimate Offerring”/“Royal Oppression” or the GY effect of “Skill Successor”), the Continuous Effect of Traps will also continue to apply.
After the Damage Step ends, it returns to the Battle Step. Then, the turn player retains priority to declare an attack, there is not a window for the opponent to activate a Spell/Trap inbetween two consecutive “Ancient Gear” attacks.
If this card is destroyed by battle, this effect stops applying at the start of substep 6 of the Damage Step.
About the ③ effect:
This mandatory Trigger Effect starts a chain and targets a Spell/Trap your opponent controls.
This card must remain face-up on the field to activate this effect, it will not activate if this card is destroyed by battle.

Card Text¶
① Negate the effect of any Trap Card that targets this card, and destroy that Trap Card. ② If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Spell or Trap Cards until the end of Damage Step. ③ When this card attacks, destroy 1 Spell or Trap Card on your opponent’s side of the field at the end of the Damage Step.
Card Rulings¶
The ① Continuous Effect does not activate.
This card can still be targeted by the effects of Trap Cards, but they resolve without effect.
This effect does not apply if a chained effect (like “Book of Moon”) flips this card face-down.
The ② Continuous Effect applies while this face-up monster is attacking.
This effect begins to apply at the Start of the Battle Step - Attack Declaration.
This effect applies until the end of Substep 7 - End of the Damage Step.
This effect stops applying if “Ancient Gear Engineer” is destroyed by battle (in Substep 4 - Damage Calculation) or by an effect during the Damage Step.
Continuous-like Effects of Spell / Trap Cards still apply.
The effects of face-up Spell / Trap Cards can still activate (ex: “Ultimate Offering” or “Skull Lair”).
Spell / Trap Cards cannot be activated (flipped face-up / played from the hand).
The ③ mandatory Trigger Effect activates & resolves on the field.
This effect activates in Substep 7 - End of the Damage Step.
This card must be face-up on the field to activate this effect.
Do not activate this effect if this card is destroyed by battle / flipped face-down / leaves the field.
